Revolut card machine Ireland: Reader and Terminal 2026
Revolut Reader and Terminal prices in Ireland, the 0.8% rate and where it doesn't apply, Pro versus Business plans, and 24-hour settlement.
Card machinesUpdated
Revolut publishes the lowest in-person card rate in Ireland: 0.8% + €0.02 on domestic and EEA consumer cards. For a business already banking with Revolut, that combination of rate and same-account settlement is hard to argue with.
The catch is in which cards qualify.
Devices and Irish prices
Prices exclude VAT. Shipping is €5.
| Device | Price | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Tap to Pay on iPhone | €0 | Uses your own iPhone as the reader, no hardware |
| Revolut Reader | €69 | Handheld contactless and chip and PIN reader |
| Revolut Terminal | €189 | All-in-one smart terminal with receipt printing |
Both devices come with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a one-year warranty.
Tap to Pay is iPhone only on Revolut. If your staff are on Android, you need the hardware, or a different provider — Square, SumUp and Mollie all support Tap to Pay on both platforms in Ireland.
Fees
The rate depends on which Revolut account you hold.
Revolut Business (limited companies and larger sole traders):
- Domestic and EEA consumer cards: 0.8% + €0.02
- Non-EEA and commercial cards: 2.6% + €0.02
Revolut Pro (sole traders): 1.5% flat on all card types, with no monthly fee.
Tap to Pay on iPhone adds roughly €0.08 per transaction on top of the terminal rate.
Revolut Business plans in Ireland start at €10 a month for Basic, €30 for Grow, and rise to around €90 for Scale. Confirm with Revolut which tier is required to get the 0.8% rate before you buy a device — this is the one number we could not pin down definitively from published Irish pages.
The commercial card problem
That 2.6% + €0.02 on commercial cards is the highest headline in-person rate of any pay-as-you-go provider in Ireland. It is more than three times the 0.8% rate.
If you sell to other businesses — a print shop, a wholesaler, a trade counter, a business-facing café near an office park — a chunk of your volume will arrive on company cards, and your blended rate will be nothing like 0.8%.
Work out your actual card mix before switching. A business doing 70% consumer and 30% commercial pays a blended 1.34%, which is still good but no longer transformative against SumUp’s 1.69% or SumUp Payments Plus at 0.95%.
If you are almost entirely consumer-facing and Irish, 0.8% is genuinely the best published rate in the market.
Contract and payouts
No contract, no minimum term, no maintenance fee. Payouts arrive free within 24 hours into your Revolut account, including weekends.
Note that the money lands in Revolut, not your main bank. If you already run the business from Revolut, that is a feature. If your accountant works off an AIB or Bank of Ireland statement, it is an extra reconciliation step.
Who it suits
Any Irish business already using Revolut Business or Revolut Pro. The Reader pays for itself fast, settlement is into the account you check anyway, and there is nothing to sign.
Sole traders in particular should look at Revolut Pro: 1.5% flat with no monthly fee, no card-type cliff edge, and no contract. It is simpler than the Business tiers and beats SumUp’s 1.69% pay-as-you-go outright.
Honest downsides
The 0.8% headline is conditional. Domestic and EEA consumer cards only. Commercial and non-EEA cards are 2.6% + €0.02.
A monthly plan fee may be required. Revolut Business Basic is €10 a month. That is not a card machine cost as such, but it belongs in the comparison if you would not otherwise pay it.
Tap to Pay is iPhone only.
Money sits in Revolut. Not a fault, but a decision — you are choosing your payments provider and part of your banking at the same time.
No physical branch or account manager. Support is in-app. Fine for most, frustrating when a terminal fails on a Saturday.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a Revolut card machine in Ireland?

What is Revolut’s card machine transaction fee in Ireland?
0.8% + €0.02 on domestic and EEA consumer cards through Revolut Business, and 2.6% + €0.02 on non-EEA and commercial cards. Revolut Pro, for sole traders, is a flat 1.5%.
Do I need a paid Revolut Business plan to use the Reader?
Revolut Business plans in Ireland start at €10 a month. Which tier is required for the 0.8% rate is not clearly published — confirm it with Revolut before buying a device.
How fast does Revolut pay out?
Within 24 hours into your Revolut account, free, including weekends and bank holidays.
Is Revolut cheaper than SumUp in Ireland?
For a consumer-facing business, yes — 0.8% + €0.02 against 1.69%. Against SumUp’s €19 Payments Plus plan at 0.95%, it is closer, and the €10 Revolut Business plan fee narrows it further. If you take a lot of commercial cards, SumUp is likely cheaper.
