Dojo card machine Ireland: fees and contract 2026

Dojo does serve the Republic of Ireland. Irish rates, rental costs, the €24.95 minimum monthly charge, contract length and who it actually suits.

Card machinesUpdated

Yes, Dojo serves the Republic of Ireland. It trades here as Paymentsense Ireland Limited and was granted an e-money licence by the Central Bank of Ireland in November 2023. There is a dedicated Irish site at dojo.tech/ie.

That needs saying because a lot of Irish coverage still treats Dojo as a UK-only brand. It is not.

What Dojo does not do is publish a euro rate card. Every figure below comes from Dojo’s Irish launch material and independent Irish reporting, and should be confirmed in your own written quote before you sign anything.

Dojo devices in Ireland

Dojo rents terminals rather than selling them.

Device Cost What it is
Dojo Go Rental from about €15–€19/month Flagship handheld: 5in touchscreen, built-in receipt printer, ~10 hour battery
Dojo Pocket Quote only Compact mobile reader
Dojo Wired Quote only Countertop terminal on Ethernet
PAX A920 Quote only Android smart terminal

All Dojo machines include 4G as well as wifi, so payments keep working when the broadband drops. For a busy café or a beer garden, that is the practical selling point.

Fees and contract

Transaction rates start from 1.3%. In practice Irish merchants are typically quoted around 1.4% + €0.05 on consumer Visa, Mastercard and Maestro, and 1.99% + €0.05 on business cards. Promotional rates as low as 0.99% appear from time to time.

Minimum monthly service charge is €24.95. If your transaction fees for the month come to less than that, you pay €24.95 anyway. This is the single most important number on the page.

Terminal rental is on top, from roughly €15 a month.

Contract is 6 months for businesses under about €150,000 in annual card turnover — roughly €12,500 a month. Above that, Dojo offers a rolling monthly contract you can cancel any time, with custom rates.

PCI compliance is included at no extra charge, which is a genuine saving against AIB Merchant Services at a reported €15 a month.

Payouts

Next day by 10am, seven days a week, including weekends and bank holidays. If your own bank processes transfers at weekends, Saturday’s takings can be with you Sunday morning.

This is the best payout arrangement of any Irish merchant account. Square, BOIPA and Elavon all settle next working day, which means Friday and Saturday trade sits until Monday.

Who it suits

A busy, consistent, in-person business. Cafés, pubs, restaurants, takeaways, barbers, garages — anywhere doing steady volume seven days a week.

The rough crossover is around €7,000 a month in card turnover. Below that, the €24.95 minimum plus €15 rental means SumUp or Square pay-as-you-go is usually cheaper. Above it, Dojo’s percentage advantage starts to compound.

Weekend trade tilts it further. If a large share of your week happens Friday to Sunday, seven-day settlement is worth real money in working capital.

Honest downsides

No published euro pricing. You cannot compare Dojo before speaking to sales, which is the opposite of how SumUp, Square and Revolut work. Anyone quoting you exact Dojo Ireland rates from a web page is estimating.

The €24.95 minimum punishes seasonality. A seasonal business — a beach café, a festival trader, anything closed in January — pays €24.95 plus rental in every dead month. Over a quiet winter that is real money for nothing.

Six-month contract for smaller merchants. Modest, but it is a commitment, and it is more than the zero you get with SumUp or Square.

Rates are quoted, not fixed. “From 1.3%” is a floor. Independent Irish reporting puts typical quotes between 1.6% and 2.5% depending on volume and card mix, which is a wide spread. Get the number in writing.
